I can change the resolution and display mode from it.

Simply did not see it before :)

So I'm happy with the latest driver now.

Hi igneus:

Welcome to the Intel® Embedded Community.

I have long subscribed to the principle that no question is a stupid question, so no worries there!

As our name suggests, theis community is focused on embedded applications and it seems you are trying to solve a problem with your notebook, a consumer product. We'll see if someone out there might know the answer to your question but you might not be in quite the right place. Have you tried contacting the support folks at your notebook manufacturer?

Good luck,

Hello!

Sorry if this is stupid question but is it possible to install igfxtray.exe and other services that come with Intel MID drivers over IEGD drivers?

I have a netbook with GMA 500 which I connect to a KVM switch and I'd like to use display Clone and widescreen "scrolling" features but I'm unable to do so with IEGD.

Intel MID driver for GMA 500 is unusable on netbooks since it has serious problems with DirectDraw :( So I had to install IEGD

I've compiled IEGD with dual-display clone setting and picked random DVO device (since I don't know which one is installed in my BenQ Joybook U121) and it detects my external monitor but cloning does not seem to work after system boot. At same time, I can use the external monitor to extend my desktop using Windows display settings. Does it mean that I've picked sDVO device correctly?

Thank you.

Hi Peter:

Welcome to the Intel® Embedded Community.

Since you are using Intel® US15W System Controller Hub, I want to make you aware of a special place to go with your technical questions. The Intel e-Help desk is staffed by Intel representatives dedicated to answering embedded Intel® architecture product, design and development questions for select Intel processors, including Atom and US15W.

The Intel e-Help desk is only available to registered private users. Before you can access e-Help, you will first have to upgrade your community membership to private status. Private account status also allows you to access special documents and tools at the Intel® Embedded Design Center. Note that it usually takes a few days for the approval process, and it normally requires that your company has a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Intel. If you are interested, Click here to go to your ‘My Account’ page and request registered private access.

In the meantime, let's see if someone in the community can help you with an answer.

Re: Question regarding US15W datasheet - one finding, more questions

Hello!

After further reading and comparing multiple Intel datasheets, I have found out some more:

In the datasheet for the ICH4 (Intel DOC 290744), for example, chapter 5.16.8 has nearly (if not completely) the same contents as chapter 12.1.4 in the datasheet for the US15W (Intel DOC 319537). Obviously, the contents of this chapter have been copied-and-pasted between the datasheets for the older chipsets and the datasheets for the newer ones.

Especially, in the ICH4 datasheet, in table 5-75 within the chapter mentioned above, the ominous "Config Register" is also referred to. But in this case, after some searching, one may find that this "Config Register" must be the USB_LEGKEY register which is described in chapter 11.1.16, page 405.

But in the US15W datasheet, there is no such description. This leads to the following two possibilities:

1) In the US15W datasheet, the chapter 12.1.4 (USB Legacy Operation) has been copied-and-pasted from older documents by error. If so, what is the USB legacy behaviour of the US15W, and how can we configure it?

2) The "Config Register" description has been forgotten in the US15W datasheet. I have searched the whole PDF for any sort of substring which may be related to such a register (64WEN, SMIEN and many more), but without success. In this case, where (and when) can we read about this "Config Register"?

Any help appreciated, information urgently needed...

Regards,

Peter

Hello!

I have a question regarding the US15W datasheet (Intel DOC 319537).

In table 31, on pages 205 and 206, there is a "Config Register" mentioned multiple times. Although searching now for several hours within many documents, I can't find out where and what this "Config Register" is.

For example, in the second row of the table mentioned above, there is the folowing sentence: "Bit 3 in Config Register determines if cycle passed through to 8042 and if SMI# generated."

What is this Config Register, and how can we change it?

Thank you very much for any help,

Peter

Hello,

IEGD 10.2 drivers are working fine on Poulsbo US15W (graphics device ID 8108) with Linux 2.6.31 and Xorg 1.6, but it looks like it is lacking support for Poulsbo US15L (graphics device ID 8109), which is used on some MID devices.

It looks straightforward to add support in the open-source kernel part of IEGD, but the Xorg driver is proprietary and can't be modified.

Does Intel plan to introduce US15L support in IEGD drivers?

Thanks

IEGD 10.1/10.2 with Ubuntu 9.04 & SuSE 11.0 on US15W works, now some questions

Hello all,

at last, I finally made the IEGD running on my Atom+US15W platform. I want to summarize the problems I had under linux here, hoping it helps to improve the package build process and install scripts for the IEGD CED.

1.) the iegd_mod.ko module

after building this and trying to load under Ubuntu 9.04 I first got a kernel crash coming from some null pointer dereference. I found out that include files like agp.h and drmP.h are delivered both in the kernel and with the IEGD package - with struct typedefs (e.g. struct drm_driver) in different versions, which caused the problem!
For me, it worked after I used the kernels drmP.h instead the delivered one. Wouldnt it be better to use the kernels headers,if they are present? the same goes with agp.h, here I had to change some call like agp_alloc_pages() to agp_generic_alloc_pages().

After all the necessary modifications are not that much, but pretty difficult if not impossible
for non-kernel-developers.

2.) the xorg.conf and *.so files

I built different configurations already, I wonder why the generated xorg.conf is called something like "null\\IEGD_10_1.x", I guess thats from the generating program.
After manually altering and adding some attributes I was able to run my desktop in single and dual head configurations. I can play a DVD under Suse11 with the X.org server version 1.4 but not under Ubuntu with the 1.6 server. There seem to be bigger changes with X.org 1.6 so are older X servers recommended? I used the ffmpeg and mplayer-vaapi sources for DVD decode.

Also I realized some performance gain in the 10.2 drivers, like less CPU usage while decoding.

regards,
Thomas

Hello,

i can confirm (for Linux) that 10.2 improved performance over 10.1 driver package in terms of CPU usage while playing a DVD.

Im running the 10.2 driver now under SuSE 11.0 (X.org 1.4) and I get CPU usage around 20% for the mplayer when decoding MPEG2. Also rendering looks better although I still see the X server also consuming some 25%to 30% of CPU load on fullscreen mode, but I guess I might have a DRI configuration issue somewhere.

regards,

Thomas
